L is for Let Go of Stuff

Does our stuff add value to our lives? Are we looking to it to find happiness and satisfaction? Do we hold it with open hands? We need to be ready to share it and to let go of it.

My mom used to remind me…If we are holding on tight, our hands aren’t open to receive something else that God may have for us. God says where our treasure is our heart is.(Matthew 6:21) Stuff here may be special to us, but ultimately it will break or be gone. Our stuff is really his stuff he has trusted to us. Are we using our stuff for his purposes or ours? Maybe we need to do a slo mo throw and let go of some of the things we are holding on to. Our house, our toys, our clothes, our gardens, … maybe we need to do a little inventory on what we are holding tight to and whether we need to let go.

But you know what else?? Some of the things we are holding onto aren’t even things others can visibly see. What may be keeping our life from being simple and free may be other stuff. Anger, resentment, bitterness, frustrations, disappointments, hurt, control.. when we hold onto these things we are not free. We are trapped by these feelings.

Honestly… I just recently had a situation where God helped me let go of disappointment and bitterness towards someone. I could feel my anger and disappointment wrapping around my heart. Have you ever felt that? It seriously kept a hold on my ability to be open and loving. I kept going to the person and trying to fix the situation and telling God about it. But when I let go of the feelings and really asked God for HIS help.. He worked on my behalf. Let the stuff go!AND here I go back to letter G… give it up… literally!

What do you need to let go of?
