B is For Be Realistic, Be Content and Be Real

The fact is… we have to BE REALISTIC. A simple life has to take place within our own life...—not our friends, our neighbours, and not in a monastery or on an island… as tranquil and simple as that may sound!!

It’s easy to look and compare. To think it will be simpler if ONLY _________________!!
I know it! I would love to rant about shiftwork and juggling big boys and little boys and never having time without kids and allergies and juvenile diabetes and a blended family with two households and parents who live way out of town. In fact, I honestly used to watch John and Kate because their crazy life with 8 kids made mine feel simpler. But the fact of it is…the particulars are different in ALL of our lives and besides...there would probably be things about living someone else’s life you and I wouldn’t like, too!

So really--being realistic also means BEING CONTENT. Not having what we want but wanting what we have. I am in awe as I realize that God, who orders the universe, choose the exact places and times in which we should live as it says in Acts. Our lives are unique, like everything in creation and God chose the place we are in for us to be so we would influence others. You and I need to remind ourselves…I am in the right place (unless we feel him telling us differently!) and start doing our job from right there… not looking to be elsewhere!

But I think B is also for BE REAL… because does it honestly make our life simpler to try to look like we have it all together? In hiding what we are dealing with we can really loose out… it can be a very heavy weight and while it keeps others out it can keep us trapped in. Being real allows us to be touched and to touch others lives.
