V is for Value Story

Joanne reminds us to “celebrate the story, not the stuff." “Stories have power. They draw us in, engage our imaginations, and keep our attention. Stories link us to others, to events, to things. They help us remember. Jesus taught with stories. Nothing was too ordinary or common for him to use to teach a lesson.” (Living Simply ABC)

We need to look for opportunites-- teachable moments to remind us and our children of God’s promises, truths and commands. Stories are simple. We can tell stories when we are walking, sitting, laying down and getting up. Birthdays, Christmas, Easter---all too often they become filled with stress and center around what needs to be done. And we miss out. Simply: let’s remember to make our celebrations a celebration of what happened. To watch our attitude and to focus on what is important. The story and meaning in all these things will leave a bigger impression than any present, any decoration or any meal we can strive to give.
