Ah...simple hospitality. How can we not say this is part of living simply? Are we to be hospitable? YES! Our homes are a gift. A refuge for our families. But not to keep just to ourselves. We are to open our hearts and our homes to others.
We can share...just a pot of coffee or some fruit and a seat outside .. it can be simple. We can share with others in need.. a listening ear...some outgrown clothes... A shoulder to cry on.
And this isn’t just in a little circle of our regular comfortable friends. You see--who was Jesus hospitable to? Who did he welcome? Jesus befriended the poor, the helpless, the beggar, the tax collector, the fishermen...the list goes on and it was a colourful list at that. He went into very varied social circles.
If we are walking with Him, then I think we will want to reach out beyond our comfort zone--outside our age, our status, our regular groups. Let's not hedge ourselves into a small circle of comfortable friends. Let's reach out... way out. Look for someone God might want you to befriend and ask for His strength and love. Look for someone who needs a friend. Let's welcome others.
